Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles

Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles: The Authorized Adaptation by Ray Bradbury and Dennis Calero
2011
Weight: 11.2 oz
Method of Disposal: Kelly Cofer Park Lending Library

I bought this for a $1.00 from the Dollar Tree.  I had read The Martian Chronicles years before I stumbled across this graphic novel, and I thought it might be neat.  I like graphic novels and Ray Bradbury.  Why not?

I did enjoy it.  It was a nice reminder and an easy read.  It makes me want to read the book again since the comic did not include a lot.

Let's All Kill Constance

Let's All Kill Constance by Ray Bradbury
2002
Weight: 14.2 oz
Method of Disposal: Leaving Somewhere

I really enjoyed this book for the first 100 pages, but I slowly started to lose interest after that and by the end I will admit I was glad it was over.  That is almost more disappointing than reading a book you do not enjoy through and through.  I had such high hopes!  I, honestly, do not have a lot to say about it other than that and that Constance Rattigan is a fantastic name for an aging Hollywood icon.

Today was one of the worst I've had in some time.  Work has been absolutely brutal.  It has been stressful, raw, emotional, and hard.  So hard.  And tomorrow is a really important day for me.  I am tired, but I am having trouble sleeping since it is all I can think about.  I am trying to distract myself by reading, blogging, and, yes, by Facebooking. :(  Send me all your positive energy, keep your fingers crossed, and hope tomorrow is a fantastic day.

Middle School/High School Reading

Fahrenheit 451  by Ray Bradbury
Smack  by Melvin Burgess
Speak  by Laurie Halse Anderson

Weight: 3lbs
Method of Disposal: Leaving at Joe's in East Atlanta

I think of Fahrenheit 451 a lot when I write on this blog.  It is silly, I am sure, but I cannot help but hear that nagging Bradbury in the back of my head telling me to hold onto these books in case any of them are banned and/or burned later.  "They" could erase anything off your Kindle, but can "they" find a carefully hidden book?  Can "they" find multiple hidden books?  Haha, do you ever hear that voice?  Think that way?  Like when Bush was in office?

Smack, I read in middle school.  The other kids made fun of me for being too goth and depressing.  Everything I did was another thing to pick at.  "Is she really reading about heroin?" "Of course she is."  That's right, little "rebellious" Laura.

Speak, I read in college.  I believe that Skye recommended it to me.  I am appreciative that there is a book about rape, and the anguish surrounding it, available to teenagers who may need to relate to it, know a friend it makes them think of, or makes them more aware of the world around them.  Rape is discussed in a tasteful, helpful, healthy, and age-appropriate way.
